Roy W. Beck, MD, PhD
Medical Director, JAEB Center for Health Research

Roy W. Beck, MD, PhD is a physician and epidemiologist with more than 35 years’ experience directing and coordinating multi-center clinical trials. He is the Medical Director of the Jaeb Center for Health Research, which he founded in 1993. During the last 20+ years, he has had a leadership role in numerous CGM, automated insulin delivery systems, and drug studies funded by NIH, JDRF, the Helmsley Charitable Trust, and industry. Dr. Beck has been an author or co-author of more than 500 manuscripts in scientific journals.

Klara Klein

Klara Klein, MD, PhD
Assistant Professor of Medicine, University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill

Klara Klein, MD, PhD is an Assistant Professor, clinician-scientist in the Division of Endocrinology and Metabolism at the University of North Carolina (UNC) at Chapel Hill. Dr. Klein serves as the Director of the Endocrine Diabetes and Obesity Clinical Research Unit (EnDO CRU), where she oversees industry-sponsored and investigator-initiated trials among people living with metabolic diseases. Dr. Klein has a specific interest in conducting stakeholder-engaged clinical trials to improve the reach and representativeness of research and hasten the acceptance of effective therapeutics.

Irl Hirsch

Irl B Hirsch, MD
Professor of Medicine, University of Washington School of Medicine

Dr. Hirsch is a clinician educator at the University of Washington in Seattle. His interests include best management strategies for both type 1 and type 2 diabetes, in addition to inpatient diabetes management. He currently is also defining the limitations of HbA1c and how use with GMI may improve its prediction of diabetes complications in addition to novel forms of glucose monitoring.

Casey Wells

Casey Wells, PharmD
Clinical Pharmacist Practitioner, Mountain Area Health Education Center (MAHEC)

Casey Wells’ passion for helping to manage diabetes for vulnerable patient populations began with foundational experiences at a small-town community pharmacy and an Internal Medicine Clinic. She completed two years of pharmacy residency at MAHEC focused on caring for rural and underserved patients in Western North Carolina. Currently, Casey works in the MAHEC Internal Medicine and Endocrinology clinic with a primary focus on diabetes and technology. She is an active member in MAHEC’s diabetes clinical trial team and provides diabetes education to pharmacy and medical residents in Western North Carolina.
