Bartłomiej Matejko
Bartłomiej Matejko, Associate Professor, Biomedical Engineer, Centre for Advanced Technologies in Diabetes, Jagiellonian University Medical College

Prof. Matejko excels in the daily capture and analysis of fundus photographs from diabetic patients, a critical component of monitoring and managing diabetic retinopathy. He was a primary fundus photographer of the Cracow team in the ePREDICE randomized trial. He has an extensive publication record of approximately 80 papers (Impact factor 168). His work is primarily centered on enhancing continuous subcutaneous insulin infusion therapy in adults with type 1 diabetes mellitus. By identifying key clinical and behavioral factors that enhance the efficacy and safety of insulin pump therapy, he has made significant contributions to advancing therapeutic outcomes for patients.

Mark van Grinsven
Mark van Grinsven, PhD medical image analysis, Managing Director, Thirona Retina

Mark van Grinsven has studied biomedical engineering after which he obtained a PhD in the field of artificial intelligence at the Radboud University Medical Center Nijmegen, the Netherlands. His thesis was titled “Automated analysis of retinal images for detection of age-related macular degeneration and diabetic retinopathy”. After graduation, he joined Thirona and started the retinal image analysis division within Thirona. Within Thirona he lead the development of a CE certified software solution called RetCAD, intended for the analysis of retinal images. Early 2023, the retinal image analysis division was spun off into a separate company “Thirona Retina”, which he is currently leading as Managing Director.

Dr. Amit Kumar Dey,

Dr. Amit Kumar Dey is a distinguished Consultant Physician specializing in Diabetology, Obesity, and Metabolic Disorders, based in Kolkata, West Bengal, India. With over 12 years of extensive clinical practice, Dr. Dey has emerged as a leading expert in his field, with Diabetology being his primary subspecialty. His dedication and excellence in patient care and awareness have been recognized through several prestigious awards. Notable among them are the Diabetes Awareness Initiative Award at Diabetes India 2020 and the Voluntary Faculty of the Year Award by the IMACP India Chapter in 2022. Additionally, his groundbreaking contributions to improving diabetes care through technological innovation earned him the esteemed JPEF2023 Award.
