 Casey Wells, PharmD

I completed my Doctor of Pharmacy (PharmD) at the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill followed by two years of residency focused on Ambulatory Care at Mountain Area Health Education Center (MAHEC). I continued at MAHEC as a Clinical Pharmacist Practitioner within the Internal Medicine and Endocrinology Clinic where I see many patients with Type 2 Diabetes and Type 1 Diabetes. I have a special interest in increasing patient access to diabetes technology and medications. To further this, I recently established a new role within our clinical trials team to promote access to novel medications and technologies for our rural patient population. I also serve as an insulin pump trainer for my community.

Andrew Welch(1)
Andrew Welch, BS, DO, UC Medical Center

Andrew Welch, DO, is a compassionate and dedicated endocrinologist who believes in a patient-centered approach to care. Inspired by the words of William J. Mayo, “The needs of the patient come first,” Dr. Welch envisions a world where people with diabetes can live normal lives, free from the burdens of constant monitoring and treatment. As an individual living with type 1 diabetes himself, he has a unique understanding of the challenges faced by his patients and is highly motivated to find innovative solutions.

Dr. Akturk is an Associate Professor of Medicine and Pediatrics at the Barbara Davis Center for Diabetes, University of Colorado. His research is focused on improving glycemic control with advanced diabetes technologies and therapeutics in people with type 1 diabetes. He has been the PI in many clinical trials assessing diabetes technologies and therapeutics such as hybrid closed loop pumps and continuous glucose monitors. He has been a part of the main clinical studies of Medtronic 780G HCL, Dexcom G7 CGM, Eversense E3 CGM, insulin lispro-aabc, inhaled insulin and adjunctive therapies in development such as glucagon receptor antagonists.
